It's going to be powerful, and I love the story we open up with here when Jesus heals a centurion's servant. Now, before we get into the story, we have to think for a second. Who out of all of Scripture do you think has the most faith we've seen in the Bible? Some might say it was Abraham because God made the covenant with Abraham.

Some might say it's Moses because Moses brought forth the Levitical laws and met with God for the Ten Commandments. Or some might even say it was Rahab, the prostitute, who's mentioned in Hebrews 11 as in the cloud of witnesses. for being justified by her faith. Some might even say it's Paul because he was transformed from Saul to Paul and it was this powerful thing.

But no, Jesus here is actually going to say that this centurion has had the greatest faith he's ever seen. And the centurion is a non-Jew. It's a Roman. The centurion is a Roman, is a Gentile. And Jesus came specifically in his earthly ministry, limited his power in his earthly ministry for the Jewish people.

101.244 - 119.013 Bryce Crawford

But he's about to recognize this Gentile's faith here and say, you have the greatest faith I've ever seen. So let's read on. After he had finished all his sayings in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum. Now, a centurion had a servant who was sick and at the point of death, who was highly valued by him.

119.053 - 143.91 Bryce Crawford

Now, normally, if a centurion had a servant and the servant was becoming ill or sick, they had the right to kill their servant. OK, this is pretty intense. They had the right to kill their servant. But now this servant was loved deeply by the centurion. And so when the centurion had heard about Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews asking him to come and heal his servant.

144.451 - 158.22 Bryce Crawford

And so he was too, the centurion almost felt unworthy of going in the presence of Jesus. So he said, I'm going to send some Jews to go before him and ask on behalf of me. Because in his mind, he's like, I'm a Gentile. Why would Jesus want to come talk to a Gentile?

159.0 - 177.314 Bryce Crawford

And when they came to Jesus, they pleaded with him earnestly, saying, He is worthy to have you do this for him, for he loves our nation, and he is the one who built us our synagogue. And Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying to him, Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof.
