Commodities chaos: why the price of your favourite foods are doubling in price
16 Mar 2022
Bord Gáis became the latest in a long line of energy suppliers to dramatically hike up electricity and gas prices yesterday, with the latter to rise by a whopping 39%. Between fuel on our forecourts and heating our homes, Irish consumers are already feeling the pinch from price increases. But as the war on Ukraine continues, we can expect even more price hikes in everything from the sunflower oil for our chips to wheat in our pasta and flour in our bread. Presenter Siobhán Maguire is joined by the Irish Independent's Farming editor, Margaret Donnelly, and TU Dublin lecturer in retail management, Damian O'Reilly, to find out why food shortages and prices surges are happening, and whether it's time we started to grow our own food.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
