Disruptive Voices - Critical Global Health (1/5): Dr Lu Gram on Critical Interdisciplinarity

11 Oct 2022

Description

Presented by Catriona Gold. In this series, we ask scholars at UCL to reflect on the meaning and practice of critical global health. In this episode, Dr Lu Gram (UCL Institute of Global Health) discusses the challenges of undertaking critical and impactful work in collaboration with other disciplines. In particular, he introduces us to the concepts of ‘WEIRD’ social science and ‘helicopter research’. Lu argues for the value of research situated in specific contexts, such as his work on violence against women in Mumbai’s informal settlements. This podcast series is hosted by the UCL Grand Challenge of Global Heath, with support from the Faculty of Social and Historical Sciences and UCL Health, Mind and Society.
