Disruptive Voices - Critical Global Health (4/5): Dr Rochelle Burgess on Community-Driven Research

23 Nov 2022

Description

Presented by Catriona Gold. In this series, we ask scholars at UCL to reflect on the meaning and practice of Critical Global Health. In this episode, Dr Rochelle Burgess (UCL Institute for Global Health) discusses the tensions and pitfalls of the concept of “decoloniality” or “decolonialism” as it is used in Northern academic contexts, with “critical global health” potentially a useful alternative framing. She also discusses her work in social psychology in Colombia and southwest London, and the nature and benefits of taking a community-led approach to mental health challenges. This podcast series is hosted by the UCL Grand Challenge of Global Heath, with support from the Faculty of Social and Historical Sciences and UCL Health, Mind and Society.
