US-China tech-war is a battle for world dominance

26 Sep 2023

Description

In the last two decades China has undergone major development. From being a poor country producing low value factory products to a leading power when it comes to some of the most advanced technologies in the world. This development gradually made China feel like a threat to the United States, and in 2018 the Trump-administration initiated the first sanctions against Chinese technology by prohibiting US agencies from using any services from the Chinese tele giant Huawei. And since 2020 export of so-called semi-conductor chips to China from the US has been increasingly subject to restrictions. The aim is to slow China’s technological development especially in defense technology and artificial intelligence. This has been know as the tech-war. We often hear about this tech-war from a Western perspective but how is it understood and dealt with from China’s side? That’s the subject of this podcast. Researcher: Yang Jiang, senior researcher and specialised in China's political economy. Host, editing and manuscript: Marie Barse
