I'm Ed Butler and today I'm telling the story of Sierra Leone's Peace Diamond. How it was found, what happened to the profits. The diamond eventually sold for six and a half million dollars at auction. The deal was this. More than half of that money would go to the government. The rest would be shared between the diggers and a community development fund. At least a million dollars would be specifically earmarked for the village itself.
