Doctors' Notes: Feet
So the plantar fascia is a piece of the anatomy, which is a thick fibrous band that runs from the heel along the plantar surface underneath your foot and inserts into the metatarsal, into the bones at the base of your toes. It fans out and inserts into the bones at the base of your toes. And it gives you some arch stability. It's like a bridging structure to prevent your arch from splaying too much when you're standing on it.
