Now, the US has struck military targets in Iran after the country fired on three US Navy destroyers sailing in the Strait of Hormuz.
We begin with a major development in the Strait of Hormuz, where the US and Iran have exchanged fire. The US military says it struck Iranian military facilities after Iran tried to attack three American warships crossing the strait. Iran says it was retaliating for US violations of the ceasefire. President Trump has described the American strikes as a love tap and insisted the ceasefire is still in effect.
And on the US end, it's also seized another Iranian tanker overnight.
The removal comes amid, of course, the ongoing US blockade of Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz with more than 20 American warships now in the region.
It just seemed it was going to be a matter of time before confrontation like this took place. You have the two rival build-up. You have the build-up of U.S. military force in the Gulf. You have those two rival blockades. From what we understand, and this is according to the American account, that they had given warnings for six hours to the Iranian-flagged vessel. The warnings, they say, were ignored.
The US Navy disabled the vessel by firing into its engine room before boarding it with Marines now in control of the ship.
