Mortification.
Original term is the Latin word meaning to put to death.
Wow.
This is literally, it's still in mortal.
Okay.
Yes.
Mortal.
Exactly.
Still in medical terms, mortification refers to the death of one part of your body while another part is still alive.
So it's necrosis, right?
So, so, and this is the reason why when you have a mortifying situation, um,
you feel like part of you has died.
I am dead because this happened.
I am now dead.
And I actually regret the fact that the rest of me is still alive because I have to keep living in this untenable situation that I have created.

But in Christianity, mortification, it's a whole Christian tenet that is the mortification of sins and the flesh, right?
Stay with me.
So it's this concept of self-denial.
You put to death the deeds of the body in you to repent for your sins.
