And if you are in a position in your life to do so, it may be worth your energy to work on it.

In a 2009 essay written by Yui Alon, a well-known systems biologist, he discusses what makes for a scientific problem worth studying.

He comes up with the following graph.

It is obviously impossible for me to state for certain that research into endometriosis will surely result in a large gain of knowledge if more attention, resources, and money is poured into it.

But, given the relatively premature state of things in this field, it's difficult to imagine otherwise.

Not a bad bet to make.
