Because if I try to pick a place to talk about him, I can't.
Because like we talked about, there's just so many different things he was to me and to us.
So again, I hope you guys understand that's where that's coming from.
But it's the most clear articulation of my feelings about him.
the job that I do and the job that he does traditionally are very specific in their process and goal.
My job is the who and the what as a play-by-play announcer, I'm supposed to punctuate the big moments and the analyst, typically former coach or player, not always, but more often than not, um, their job is the how and the why.
And, uh,
Those lines don't always blur.
I think good broadcasts, those lines blur a little bit because that speaks to the education and information and knowledge of the two parties involved.
And I think great broadcasts and some of the best broadcasts allow clear stepping into each other's quote-unquote territory.
Stacey being a disciple of Dick Vitale,
He met Dick when he was in college.
Dick is this larger than life analyst and personality.
And Stacey was a journalism major at Oklahoma and obviously got a lot of national attention.
So he talked to the broadcast crews, CBS and ESPN or whatever that would come in.
And when he would talk to Dick Vitale and then go back and watch the games that his parents had taped on like VHS or whatever, like he'd watch the games back and he'd be like,
That guy's having more fun than anybody in the building.
He's talking through the big shot and then timeout called on a three.
And he's just, you know, ran and raving through and doing his catchphrases, the PTP or the diaper dandies, you know, all that stuff like that was a wholly unique thing.
And Stacey's like, if I ever got a chance to do that, that's how I would want to do it.
