Adam Hamawi

Adam Hamawi, a plastic surgeon, won a crowded primary yesterday in New Jersey's deep blue 12th congressional district.

He led the pack in fundraising boosted by endorsements from high-profile Democrats such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Bernie Sanders.

And he received that support despite having previously served as translator for Omar Abdel Rahman, known as the quote, blind sheik, the mastermind of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

Hamawi also testified in defense of the blind sheik at his 1995 trial before Rahman was sent to prison for terrorism and seditious conspiracy.

Hamawi has dismissed questions about his past as, quote, guilt by association shaming.
