You may not be asked to leave Shinnecock Hills.
I think this is one of these iconic old-school golf courses.
If you had studs in your shoes, you'd be just fine.
I think everything would be okay.
It has lifted, so we had a formal two-hour delay this morning due to the fog, and sometimes there's hyperbole around that, and it's like, come on, guys, let's get going.
No, not here, not this morning.
It was pretty bad, so it was a fair two-hour delay, and now they're off to the races, and they are going to use up every ounce of daylight that they can in order to get as much of this first round in the books before tomorrow.
Yeah, I would say that the golf course and Scotty Scheffler's maiden attempt at winning the career Grand Slam, it's kind of like parallel paths in terms of storylines pre-tournament.
I will say really quick, just as I'm talking to you guys, Rory McIlroy has just made his second birdie in a row and is now leading the championship at two under par.
So Rory, I'm sure maybe we'll talk about in a minute or two, but
Pre-tournament, yeah.
Shinnecock Hills is arguably maybe the golf course that the back of American golf was built on.
It's been around since the 1800s.
Obviously, it's been an iconic host of the U.S.
Open for a century, I guess you could say.
You know, there's always been conversation around it and if it's, you know, on the line, which way is the guy going to go with the USGA.
And that's kind of part of the identity of this particular major championship.
So now I think like the trickle down kind of word from the USGA is like, hey, let's not lose the golf course.
Let's not have Shinnecock Hills kind of give off this.
main character energy and it be like kind of a negative of the week like let's have Shinnecock kind of be more of a star of the week and yeah I think like that is it comes with reason for when this championship goes to a place as iconic as this so yeah I mean I think the USGA has done everything they could have prior to the tournament beginning to make sure that things are as even or as on the line as possible and I think Shinnecock being part of the pre-tournament story was completely within reason
