The picture would become a symbol of the resistance in Argentina and is still used today. The pair wearing matching headscarves are yelling, raising their arms in protest with clenched fists and anguish on their faces.

The Plaza de Mayo in central Argentina is where these demos began in 1977. Mothers met here to demand the release of their children detained or disappeared by the regime. But the day the picture was taken, the march was held in the Plaza de Avecenada because of arrests in the usual location.
