Now, as an adult, I have been able to go a few to a few Walmarts across the U S and I have to say my impressions of it matched, uh, that of the Walmarts on the East coast, but not of the West coast is just an LA thing where the Walmart feels normal, but

Why is there such a difference?

Asking as a foreigner, that being said, Walmart has opened two stores here in South Africa, but they're not as good as the ones in the US, in my opinion.
