Most of the bodies within the National Institutes of Health have advisory councils.
They're made up of experts who assess the scientific grant applications and approve them.
Those vacancies create a bottleneck for research.
In a letter obtained by Bloomberg government, the lawmakers point out Kennedy rescinded invitations to join those councils, including critical research councils.
which will see their current staffing expire by the end of this year.
The members gave HHS a March 20th deadline to respond to their questions about those vacancies.
