I mean, you get penalties for breaching every other law.
And the OIA is so important.
At a time when trust and democracy is being eroded, it's really, really important that we have transparency in our government, our politics and our public service.
There are no consequences for breaching the OIA, for not releasing information, for holding back information until it's politically convenient to release it or the story's died away, the heat's out of the issue.
So I would like to see independence of the resourcing for OIA, so OIA teams separate in agencies, but also more ability for the ombudsman to go in there and
and basically say to an agency, here's a fine, or something that would make agencies think twice about not releasing information.
