So if they had escaped here, where would they be heading to?
So basically, you'd just try and get away.
There's no other... You wouldn't want to go back to your house because you'd be turning up your wife and be like, where the fuck have you been?
And it would be too obvious.
You'd be trying to escape to...
into a forest to try and get some form of safety.
There's no real escape plan because you don't know, especially in 1940, you don't know where the next patrol's operational base is, as we've seen, really super close.
But these guys wouldn't have known anything about Branscombe.
They wouldn't have known anything about the ones in Dorset.
So basically, you're just trying to escape.
Essentially, the escape tunnel is...
uh there for morale purposes if the if the entrance here and the germans are here and they found the entrance and you're escaping down there you've gotten essentially no chance it's just something to so it feels like you've got a chance yeah but it essentially you haven't no because the germans are here they're not just going to be standing i don't need to hear this one that we might go to later didn't even bother to do uh escape tunnel
They wouldn't have, if they had heard noises, they wouldn't have... Well, the shiny OT, the observation post, if there is one and it's connected by telephone wire and he'd seen the Germans coming, he would have telephoned wire.
So they would either, if they're confident they're not going to find the bunker, just make sure the hatch was shut and then you'd just keep quiet and hope for the best.
They tend to be, they're almost in a line, all of them, because you've got the railway to the north and you've got the main road coming in and out of the West Country to the south, which is...
And Lime Ridge is a port.
Axmuth is a good landing beach.
So all the way along this line.
So loads of country houses around here that are likely to be taken by Germans as headquarters.
So another reason to attack.
