So that's just an air vent coming out.
That's the air vent.
But often they'd have a chimney in a tree like that, so it would go up further, and the smoke from the kitchen would then vent at the top of the tree line, so it wouldn't go through the forest, so the Germans couldn't see the smoke.
So, this is the hatch.
So, this is a much more, obviously, a much more obvious hatch.
It would be complete.
So sometimes this, you'd stick on foliage, so you'd do it completely covered.
Sometimes it's just a tray over the top of it.
And honestly, it wouldn't be, it'd be completely flush to the floor.
So this is there for health and safety, which they didn't tend to worry about.
so this is much more obvious but if you can imagine it flush to the floor covered in leaves and foliage without a distinct path or a memorial
You literally wouldn't be able to see it.
I wish I'd said that in front of everyone.
And you might remember, so there's different ways of getting into it.
So they had genius ways of either letting the people down there know that you're on top.
Oh yeah, how would you... Some were literally on a counterweight system, so you'd stamp on the hatch and it would pop up.
Oh yeah.
Others, you'd have like a specific coloured marble...
which you'd roll down what looked like a mouse hole, and it'd roll down and enter a tin down there.
It would have rolled all the way down into the bunker.
