release and on her sub stack by the main developer of of uh i i forget what the specialty area is for her but anyway i commend that and if you get a chance to read it's really well written and really explains in very clear and easy to understand terms
what they've done to GPT-5 to create GPT-5.1.
Overall, it improves the performance and enables more customized behavior.
You can basically, as we were discussing yesterday on the show, you can kind of give it instructions of how you want it to be with you.
And that gets away from a sort of centralized personality that many find objectionable, even though some may find, you know, appreciable.
So it's this personalization of the model's behavior and personality in acting with you and speaking with you that I think is the principle of advancement of 5.1 over five.
So what have you learned about it, Beth?
And you can, you can select any one of those different, I think there's seven or eight personality types that are kind of available as customization of the GPT 5.1.
and you can just click on one of those and change it right so you can if you want the cynical one we talked about this yesterday too about the importance of having the ai not simply be oh congratulations that was a brilliant idea and i'm gonna you know follow whatever you said uh but instead you want something that's going to challenge and and or provide uh counterpoints to what you're asking and and maybe even redirect your thinking about the the
process of the dialogue that you're having, you can select one of these more challenging personality types.
I was interested in seeing cynical because I consider myself behind the scenes to be a cynical person.
Anyway, I'm curious about it because I want to try what that cynical personality looks like, but it's not going to be satisfying to me if it's just sarcastic and difficult.
Right?
Right.
It's not enough to do that.
Cynicism actually has a value in argumentation.
And so I think that's what I'm hoping that it does when you click that personality type.
But I was like, is this possible?
Yeah.
So this idea of multi-selecting personality types makes me jump way ahead to, you know, we had a temperature parameter that was exposed previously and you could adjust the temperature in order to kind of, you know, boost the creativity level, if we can call it that, or the randomness level.
