A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I love that so much. I love that. I love this story. I love that you got us to read this story. Something that is so interesting to me is that during this time, during Jesus' time, if you guys know, there was a feud going on between the Samaritans and the Jews. The Jews considered themselves to be the pure-blooded race.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
And so they are elite, they're better, they're on top because they're pure-blooded and they're just Jews. Samaritans are a mixed breed. They're Jews and another race. And Samaritans and the Jews hated each other. They absolutely hated each other.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
So they would purposely go around each other like they would go hours and hours and miles out of their way so that they wouldn't have to run into each other. And During this time, the Jews thought that they were so, so elite, right?
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
And so it just goes to show that the kingdom of God is not for the elite or the pure or the rich or the ones who are better than everybody else, because this Samaritan person who is looked at as less than, who is despised... The Jewish man, who was a priest, who was supposed to be better than the Samaritan in the story, he goes to the other side of the street.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
And the Samaritan, who is the lesser-than person in the situation, he's the one that stops. So God is always putting an emphasis on, it doesn't matter who you are, what you are, where you come from, it's about your heart. And it's about how much and how well you serve other people. I just love that so much.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I love the emphasis on the fact that, like, the person you thought was supposed to do something good is actually the person that didn't. And the person that we look down on is actually the one that God is going to favor in this situation, you know?
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I love us. I love what we've done. Hashtag cute Bibles. I know.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I love what you're talking about. How, um, yeah. how your family taught you at such a young age. If I can say thank you to my mom for anything, it's the fact that I had the greatest role model ever when it comes to serving others. Like my mom is a absolute gangster. Like she, Albanians in general, they do this a lot where like, they're just like when you, if you look up like traits of,
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Like traits of Albanians, like what are they known for? It's their hospitality. They let people in. She makes fruit. She makes fruit. She makes food. Like you set people up well. You let them into your home. You open the door. You give what you can. You give money. You put yourself out. You are there for people when they need you, whether it's financially or a million other ways.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
You open, you know, the door. And so like I grew up in a context where... Our door was like a revolving door. Like we had people with us all the time. We always had people stay. And like now these days I'm like, you needs to come to my house, come to my house. Like I, my bed is open.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Like I have, you know, you can have what's mine, you know, like, because that's just like the way that I was raised. It's, and I don't, I can't even imagine being any different than just like, I watched my mom and I,
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I've just seen, and my mom wasn't, you know, my mom loved Jesus, but she wasn't in this context of Christianity where you are like, that you focus on serving or being hospitable or any of these things. This was just like really innate for them. And so I watched my mom my whole life just give, give, give, give. And I see the reward of that. Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
And we don't do things to get anything in return. That's not the heart of Jesus. He did not die on the cross so that he could get something in return from us. He did it regardless of if he ever gets anything in return. But, like, I've seen the reward in my mom's life. Yeah.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I love being called Angie. And it's only since you... You're the only person who's ever called me Angie. No way. But then you got GGB to start doing it. And it's just like, oh, I love it so much.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Yeah. God always provides. Same with my dad. She has never lacked. We have always had what we needed. Same. Sometimes it was a lot. Sometimes it was absolutely nothing. But it was always enough.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
You have a mentality where it's like... We're not this like independent, isolated, like we both come from situations where it's like it's a village. Like you care for each other. You serve each other. What do you need? What do you need? Let me provide. How can I help? Like that's just the mentality that we have.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I think it's, like, so interesting for you and I because we live in L.A. for, whatever, 10 years now. And it's, like, it's such a dog-eat-dog, isolated, independent, everyone's-out-for-themselves type of world. And I think you and I have, thank you, Jesus, done such a good job at not becoming like that where we're not, like, in it for ourselves.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
We're not, like, we—it's just so interesting being in the position that we're in because— When you have a microphone and cameras and lights and stage and tour and blah, blah, blah, all this stuff, the temptation would be to think that, like, my ministry is important. My podcast is important. I serve the masses because our podcast is so successful and blah, blah, blah.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Angela. Angela. She'll say it in text. Angela. But if I say Arielle, like even if we're arguing, I won't call you R, but I'll still call you Ari. If I call you Arielle, you know something's up. I know. You get so mad too. I call you right away. What's up? What's up? You good? You good? Hey, I'm Ange. And I'm Ari. And this is Girls Gone Bible.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
And God is speaking just such a different message. He's like, yes, what you do is significant and important, but you are not great in the kingdom of God when you lead by having followers and being an important person. You are great in the kingdom of God when you serve people with a selfless, humble heart.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
And so like we're in this thing and like everybody who's in a position that we're in and and even if you don't have a podcast and even if you're not famous or on Instagram or all the things you still we all have to fight the temptation to be of being like what I do is so important and it's more important than what anybody else does. You know what I mean?
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
When God is like, that's not what's important to me. No, it's not. It is not. It's not. It's not.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
We are a faith-based podcast where we talk all things, spirituality, mental health, relationships, anything to do with life. But above all else, we love talking about Jesus. Jesus is our man. He's our guy. He's our God. We love that guy. I think that was the best intro yet. Honestly, not bad for someone with the flow. You flowing it up, baby. Boom. What about? What? What?
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I love that so much. It is all about people. Yeah. Yeah. Period. Everything we do is about people. Gifts of the spirit are for people. It is for the gift of prophecy is to build up the people of the church. The gift of healing is to heal God's people. The gift of faith is to let it spread to everybody around you. So everybody has faith in Jesus. The gift of tongues is to literally edify the body.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Like everything that we do, everything that we are in the kingdom of God is for for people. It's for people. This is just one thing that I've noticed about Christianity in general, especially in this time of social media. And the rise of Christian content is the most incredible thing. Thank you, Jesus, that so much Christian content is pushed.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Our biggest issue is that we have people who want to be Instagram famous and they don't actually love other people. The greatest commandments are love the Lord your God with all your heart and love his people. I heard Bill Johnson say something really, really profound. And it's that your relationship with Jesus is not invisible. Your relationship with God is invisible, but it can be measured.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
And it is measured by the love that you have for other people. It's measured by the way that you serve other people. You cannot just say that you love God with your mouth and spend time in the secret place and develop and cultivate this incredible relationship with God. And you operate in the gifts and you do all these things and you're so gifted and you're so amazing. And
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
You hear the voice of God and you're an incredible singer. You really know how to make Christian content. But then you don't love and serve people. That is not like the two have to be. They have to coincide. I know. And so I just I wrote this thing that I just wrote a little something that I feel like kind of sums up just this whole thing for me personally.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Greatness in God's kingdom is not measured by the usual standards of the world. In a world that celebrates power, status, and influence, Jesus gives us a radically different perspective. In his kingdom, the greatest are those who serve.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
i said yeah okay you had what nothing i can't stop talking about it i had the flu and i want everyone to know and i why i am so somebody commented and they go you get sick too much you need to get a probiotic pot or something like that oh what i don't know a probiotic pot i know what they said they didn't say that right By the way, I just got yelled at by the valet guy.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
And then in Matthew 20, we have this little story where the mother of James and John asks Jesus if when they get to heaven, he will take her two sons and put them in positions of like high honor. One on Jesus' left and one on Jesus' right. And this request stirs up like a bunch of jealousy and competition and issue amongst the believers. And then Jesus goes and tells them something so profound.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
He uses this moment to teach them about the true nature of the kingdom of God. And it's like what we said. It's not about the things that the world sends a message. It's about serving. And he says, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant. And whoever wants to be first must be your slave.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Just as the son of man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many. It challenges us to rethink our whole perspective around power and status. Jesus came not first.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
to be served but to serve yeah and so as a follower of jesus that's the approach that we take and it can get really messed up when you think that your gifts are important that your presence is important and you are precious to jesus And if God himself came down, he makes literally the world his footstool. That's how powerful Jesus is. And he came to serve.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
How much more should we be serving one another and not looking to be the most powerful or the most important or the most like, you know what I mean? I just, we are supposed to serve the least of these. If you and I walk into a church and we have power and influence, we must be on the ground washing feet. Yeah. That's the point.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
And I was like, I film at the place, at the podcast place. Like, I always park here. And he's like, you guys only have two spots and there's three of you here. Someone has to pay. I was like, I said, ask the other blonde girl to pay when she comes. I said, it's not me, it's the other blonde girl. You saw the blonde girl, right? And he's like, yes, yes, but you pay.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
It is the most edifying thing when you're going through a bad time to help somebody else to take the focus off of yourself.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Like you said, my favorite thing that happens sometimes is when you're going through something and I start going through something and I just see in you completely like disregard all that you're going through to step in and step up and like intervene for me because I'm going through something in that moment. And I see that it makes a difference in your life. Like it gives you purpose.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Serving others gives you purpose. If you're struggling with your mental health, I promise you the more you take your focus off of yourself, the more that you put energy and life into somebody else, into speaking life over somebody, into being there for somebody, like into just sitting. And a great way to offer somebody help and to be of service to people is
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
is to stop thinking about yourself and to really focus in on somebody else's issues and to really sit and analyze and be an ear and pray and say, God, do you have something that I can tell this person? Is there anything that I can say to try and help this person get out of whatever hole that they're in?
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
And then you watch God speak to you and God can literally use you to speak through you to a person and you give somebody life by actually sitting. the issues of life with people. And you just give someone a little, yeah, you're good. Don't even worry about it. You're fine. Instead of really sitting and being like, what can I give to this situation? What can I give to this person?
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I was like, no, no, no, the other blonde girl. That's what you said?
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I have to pay for everything.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I think something that's really, really important that is kind of... When I think of servanthood, this is the most important and probably because it has so much to do with like the position that we're in is that I see like leadership and I see the way that people view leadership and like whatever they do in the world is up to them.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
But in the church, in Christianity, in faith, like being a leader is characterized by your heart that's willing to serve people. Yeah, yeah. A true leader in the Christian faith is not the person who demands and commands and sets the tone and sets rules. It's literally the person who is serving with sacrificial love. Yes. That is building other people up. It's the person who chooses to go last.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
You guys have no idea.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Yeah. The person who chooses to go last. The person... It's like when... whatever, I don't know, military terms, but when somebody is at war and the captain or the leader, whatever, they're not supposed to just hang back. They should be at the front of the line, willing to risk their life and give up their life for everybody else.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Just because you're in the highest position doesn't mean you get the best treatment. Jesus is in the highest position and he got the worst treatment.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Don't you, dear. All right, talk about servant heart. We are the two most... It must be an East Coast thing. It's an East Coast thing, and it's an Albanian thing. Ari and I are the same. I think we've said it on here before, but we fight to pay the bill. We will fight each other. We fight other people. No, we will fight them. We'll fight. It's just a thing. That's how my family is.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
It's having a heart that meets the needs of others. And that's just what it's about. That's what He's asking of us. And that's what Ari and I are here to tell you today is have a heart that desires to meet the needs of others. And it's not the easiest thing in the world.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I know the one thing that I pray for every day of my life is Jesus, give me the awareness and the ability, the maturity and the strength to go out and not be so focused on myself and my own life that I forget that like, yes, going on a podcast is amazing, but my main point of evangelism is my mouth face to face with somebody. And my temptation is to like, I'm just trying to chill.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Like, I don't really want to. I don't really want to talk about anything. I don't really want to talk to anyone. I'm a little introverted. You know what I mean? But it's like, that's not the heart of Jesus. Jesus stopped for the one every single time. Jesus never saw somebody in need and thought, I just don't really feel like it right now. You know what I mean?
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
It's having a heart that wants to meet the needs of others. And I think we can all grow in this area. All of us. All of us, including us, because the temptation is to be selfish. The temptation is like we are so concerned with what's happening in our own world. And there's a lot all the time. And I have a thousand reasons why I should be focusing on myself. Yeah. but we're called higher.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
But I refuse to let them—I'm unwilling to send them away hungry. I think about when we go, like Scripture says, He rewards those who diligently seek Him. He wants to feed us with himself. Like he wants so bad. I just, I love that. That spoke to me. That is just like, he refuses to let people go away hungry. If you go into the secret place and you look at Jesus and you say, I'm hungry, feed me.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
That's how your family is.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I want you. I want more. His heart, it literally says that his heart is that he refuses to let you go away hungry. He wants to feed you. If you want more of him, he wants to give it. I just love that so much. There's this... Ari and I love this. Clearly, we're so fired up because this is, again, we are, GGB is all about rebelling against what the world teaches.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Exactly. Oh, go and be the first one to tell the waiter, take my card, and if you don't, we're going to have a problem. Until it's me and you at dinner, and you're like... Oh, please, Ari, shut up. I pay for everything. And then Ari and I, though, have realized that other people, like, don't fight to pay. Like, in fact, they don't pay at all. In fact, no, they don't offer.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I am so, so sick and tired of this self-serving, self, self, self message of self because it's so detrimental. Everybody's miserable. Everybody's alone. Everybody's isolated. Nobody has true love. Nobody has true relationships. You can't live serving yourself. You drive yourself into the ground. And it's what kind of life is that?
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I grew up in a family and an environment where you put yourself out for other people. Sometimes I need boundaries, which is good. But, like, I would rather be like that. I would rather put myself out and, like, put myself in maybe not the best position because I know my reward in heaven. And this is, like, one thing that I want to say because I have it in my notes, like,
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
True service is not about recognition or reward. It's about laying your life down for others. It's about mirroring the sacrifice that Jesus made where he didn't do anything for a reward. But scripture is very clear that worthy is the lamb that was slain to receive the reward of his suffering. We asked a pastor recently, everyone has the question, what good is it if you do things God's way?
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
What good is it if you walk in purity? What good is it if you serve other people well? What do I get from it? That's everybody's question. What's the blessing? And we talk about that. We talk about the blessing that comes from obedience. We talk about the favor that comes from serving.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
If you serve other people the way that Jesus serves them, I guarantee you, I promise you that you will receive blessing, honor, favor, all of the things. But that's not why we do it. It's not even to receive anything in return. It is for Jesus. Absolutely. to receive his reward for his suffering. Jesus has the ability to receive the reward of his suffering through our lives.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
If we serve each other well, if we love each other well, Jesus, it's not about even what we receive and it's great. You will receive, you'll have a great life. You'll receive so much blessing from serving people. But more importantly, so much more importantly, Jesus receives his reward through our lives. I don't know about you guys. I really want Jesus to receive his reward through my life.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Because I know that if nobody else existed on the planet except me, it was just my life. Jesus would have still gone to the cross. If it was just me he was dying for, he would have gone and he still would have looked at the cross as the joy that was set before him just for me.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
So I look at it as like, I can't control what anybody else does, but what I can control is doing my very best to make sure that when I get to the end of my life, Jesus can look at me and say, I received my reward through your life, through the way that you lived your life because you served people well.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
In fact, they don't pay at all. Ever. And then so Ari and I have found ourselves, we'll be, like, out to dinner, like, doing something. We'll be like, we got it, we got it, we got it. And they're like, oh, yeah. They're like, I wasn't fighting you on it. And we're like...
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Before I ever had Girls Gone Bible, before I ever made videos, before I ever did anything on social media... And I miss it so much. And I know you've just got to be faithful with the season that you're in, with what God's given you right now. I love what we do more than anything. Like, I wouldn't obviously trade it for the world. But gosh, do I look back on Evangelist Ange beginning days.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
But like, I used to bring literally everything. Five, 10, 15 people, girls specifically, to church every Sunday. That was my thing. I had like an LA nightlife ministry. I had no idea what I was doing, but I'd go to people who were struggling and I would say, you need Jesus. I would buy people... I was just like Amazoning people Bible. What's your address? Here's a Bible. Here's a study Bible.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Like it was... It wasn't like I was, you know, frigging on a missions trip, like helping the poor and the needy and the hungry, which is incredible and important. But I was doing what I could with what I had. And like, I miss those days. Like, I miss the days where I would talk to my neighbor and I would pour into them and I would sit and I would stop. And like, so this is like...
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I know how I serve the people in my everyday life and the people who are closest to me, but I feel convicted from this to do more. I feel convicted in my own heart to be like, I can do more. I can. I can be on mission all the time, and I want to do it. Yeah. I want to leave the house and make it a mission to invite somebody to church, to stop and ask somebody, hey, what are you going through?
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Let me tell you a little bit about my story and what Jesus did in my life. This is the way that you serve people best. You do do that, Ange. I love you.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I love you so much. You want to do it. I see you do it all the time. I love you so much. You do. We are so connected to the people that we talk to who are so broken, and it has been the most grounding and the most humbling thing of our lives. People are hurting, and they're sick, and they're poor in spirit, and they need Jesus, and they need to be served. Yeah.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
And if you have any sort of influence, if you have any sort of power, it's not for you. It's not for you.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
It's the best. It is the best. It's the best when you get to be with people face to face and you get so nitty gritty in their story, in your story. Jesus is constantly, constantly, constantly preaching a message of humility. He's constantly preaching a message of selflessness. And in this...
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
John 13, it talks about how Jesus washes his disciples' feet and his whole point in doing what he does is because he wants his disciples to know that it's all about selfless, sacrificial servanthood. And it says, "...he began to wash the disciples' feet, drying them with the towel he had around him." When Jesus came to Simon Peter, Peter said to him, Lord, are you going to wash my feet?
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
You have. You taught me that word. I said fickle before? You've said that. You taught me that. I didn't know that word. That's our word of the day. Fickle.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Jesus replied, you don't understand what I'm doing, but someday you will. No, Peter protested, you will never, ever wash my feet. Jesus replied, unless I wash you, you won't belong to me. Simon Peter exclaimed, okay, then wash my hands and my head as well, Lord, not just my feet. Jesus replied, a person who has bathed all over does not need washing.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
to wash except for the feet to be entirely clean. I love this moment so much because it's completely counter-cultural for Jesus to wash his disciples' feet. It is the lowest position that you can take in a household. Like literally the lowest, lowest, lowest servant. The person who is equal to practically nothing is the one who washes feet.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
And Jesus, King of kings, Lord of lords, decides I'm going to wash my disciples' feet because I want to show you guys what you're supposed to do. Everything he does is an example. Everything he does is to show us, do as I have done. Follow me. Be my disciple. Follow me. And I just love this moment where he says, Jesus replied, unless I wash you, you won't belong to me.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
It's like he's expressing this symbolic nature that without Jesus, we will never be clean. We have to be clean by the blood of Jesus. And he's saying, because Peter's like, no, no, don't. I don't. I am not good enough for you to wash my feet. And he's like, do you not want to be one of mine? Yeah. So it's symbolic in him saying, I must be the one who washes you clean.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
You can't do it apart from me. I just love it.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
No. Actually, fickle means, like, unreliable. I think. I don't know. Maybe we're both wrong. Okay. What do you think about my 90s? Do you remember that one time? It was our second episode ever. I wore jeans and that Jesus Loves You t-shirt, and I thought I was going for the model-off-duty look, but I ended up looking like... construction worker.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I think another... Thing that I just want to add, Ari and I can't wait for the day where we are actually in one place for more than a week at a time. It's been really tough. Ari and I are not planted really in a local church. I have my church that I watch online, and then I have my church that I go to in LA, and then I have my church that I go to when I'm in Idaho.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I'm getting over the flu. I'm getting over the flu. That was a scary one. Listen, I don't know why.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
But I can't say that I'm not planted in a church to serve. Yeah. Serving the local church is something that is a luxury of life that I can't wait till we get to be a part of one day. Being plugged into the local church and serving God's church. Jesus loves his bride. Jesus loves the local church.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
God loves the church and he wants, he wants, he wants, he wants you to be plugged in and he wants you to serve. There's a million ways you can serve at a church. And It's hard to tell you guys to do that when we're not doing that, but just know that this is something that matters to me so deeply, and I can't wait till the day because I know it's going to change my life.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I know being rooted in church community, serving the local church, getting to be a part of the experience that I had where I walked into a church, I heard worship, I read scripture, I heard a sermon, and my entire life changed. I can't wait to be a part of that for other people.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
And then one last thing for me, tithing is the most, the most, the most, the most, one of the most important things that we can do. And I have gone my whole church life because I watched my mom give. My mom, she's just like incredible. She's just like, she'll throw, she doesn't care.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Like even if she doesn't have it, she is literally the woman with nothing who gives from her lack as opposed to giving her from her excess. So I've watched that. And so I've always been the same. Like I've always given, but then I'm reading scripture and I'm reading where God says like, you are to give me 10% and he gives a specific amount. And so that's not by accident.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Like he gives us guidelines and he gives us something to follow. And he says, you give me 10% of the first fruits of your income. And then it's the only time that he ever says, test me. He says, and then test me. I will open heavens, like literally heaven will open and rain down blessings on you when you give me 10% of your tithe, of your income.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
And so what I started doing, and because before I was like, I'll give here and I'll give here and I'll give and I'll give and I'll give. But I never actually sat down, calculated my income and given 10% of my overall income. And I finally started doing that. I feel like I'm living in obedience. Yeah.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
You know, it's obedience, period. And so the local church tithing, so important.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Yeah. Say that you serve people really, really, really, really well. This is a really good episode for you because you serve people really well. And I mean that with all my heart.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
You really serve people well. You serve my family. Ari is there for my family in a way that you guys will never know because I don't share that part of my life. But God knows and I know and you know how much you've served my family. And the things that you've done behind closed doors and you do things when nobody's watching, things that you'll never get recognition for.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
So be encouraged that you do. Everything that we talked about, you preach it.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I hang up on everyone to answer Ari's phone call.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Do what you got to do.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
She thought I was crying because I didn't like my blowout because you guys know that I freak out about my blowouts when I don't like them. And so she's dying laughing because she thinks I'm crying because I hate my blowout. But really, the lady's telling she's accepting Jesus. She's crying her eyes out. She changed my life. You just brought me to salvation. It was so fun.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I can't believe we haven't taken that down. And I go... Oh, you want to be a good man. Like, who was I talking to? The first few relationships episodes, like, it sounded like I went through a really bad breakup or something. I used to yell at the camera and be like, Christ love. You're supposed to love your wife like Christ loved the church. And you know what Christ did? He died.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
One of my favorite scriptures, Philippians 2.6, it's like Jesus did not count equality with God as something to be grasped, but instead he humbled himself. He emptied himself. He made himself nothing and took on the form of a servant. in order to save the lives of many, many, many people. He emptied himself and took on the form of a servant.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
If Jesus spent his whole life sacrificially serving other people and he never grasped any sort of, he is God, he is God in all of God's fullness, divinity, power, authority, in the perks of being God. And instead he emptied himself and became a servant. You know what I mean? And that's just the model that we're to follow.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
And one last thing that I'll say, something that I've realized about God, everything points to Jesus. The Bible points to Jesus. The Father points to Jesus. Holy Spirit points to Jesus. And then Jesus points to Himself, basically. God is obsessed with His Son. The Holy Spirit is obsessed with Jesus. The more we look like Jesus, the more attracted God is to us. Like he's attracted to his son.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
That's why you get favor when you look like Jesus, because God looks at you and then he sees his son and he's attracted to that and he comes to it more. Arrogance, pride, greed, they repel God. You know what I mean? But the more we look like Jesus, the more, and again, this is not a prosperity message of saying like you're going to get good things if you're like Jesus.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
But the truth is God loves his son. He's attracted to his son. He dwells where his son is. He wants to be near Jesus. And so just be encouraged that we have a model. His name is Jesus. We are to look like him.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I love that. All right, everybody, comment in the box, like Ari likes to say. Comment in that box. She makes fun of me because I say comment in the box. What do you want me to call it? She's like, you know, comment in the box. What is the call?
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
They're our kids. And then sometimes we're your kids. Scripture says if... What does it say? Oh, you want to know what scripture says? I can tell you. We love you guys so much. We love you. We love you. We love... Like, please don't look at that.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Like, who was I yelling at? Who have we been yelling at? Can we talk about it? We still do. I know. Let's calm down. Nah. All right, guys. So we love you, GGB, so, so much. We are so excited today. I feel like we haven't sat at the table and really dove into a topic in a while.
Girls Gone Bible

Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible

No, I don't think I ever did. You saw how I used to dance. You can dance. I was a pretty good dancer. You were a pretty good dancer.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
I can move the hips a little bit. Like when I'm in worship and sometimes the hips start moving a little too much. A little bit, but then I don't do that anymore. keep it when we're at legacy i noticed myself because we're getting kind of hype and i noticed myself like the shoulders the shoulders were moving and that was okay but in the bottom and i was like whoa stop it do this
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
It's so true. It's so true because... Just like Ari said, when you read a story and you meditate on it, it's just like your eyes get open to something new every single time. That's so good. It's insane.
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
we make a miracle work a promise keep a lot in the dark okay we are that is the truly the most embarrassing thing we have ever done we've lost it the most embarrassing thing we've ever done what's the most embarrassing on the show oh you guys have the thoughts me too i have the thoughts too Wait, what?
Girls Gone Bible
A Servant’s Heart: Serving Others Like Jesus | Girls Gone Bible
Do not be on your phone when somebody is reading from the Word of God. We know that. I know you guys would never do that.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
And it's not like... Okay, last thing we'll say on this. And maybe God just wanted us to talk about this. It's not about a checklist. It's not about... read this and we're good. Like it's about wanting to know Jesus more and it's about wanting to spend time. Like when you, scripture says like you search the scriptures for me.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
Like you, when you read the Bible, it's like you're looking for Jesus and you're looking to know him better. It's not just like, oh, I'm going to read this because it makes me feel better and I'll have a good day, which is true. And like, if that's all you have to give, that's all you have to give. But it's like, I read this because I want to know you. This is us spending time together.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
This is me hearing from you. So just be wary of making things a checklist and like, oh, did this, now we're good. It's like, you just, he wants more than that. He loves you so much. He wants everything.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
She's been on a very... I went to two things of therapy, so now I can't stop talking.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
We've realized Ari is way more avoidant than we had any idea, and I'm way less avoidant. But that's also how it is sometimes where if one person is avoidant, the other one, like, there's always one. And my dad raised me. And so when I have to go, I don't know. It's so weird. Well, my mom raised me. And my mom is like... my mom is tough as nails.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
Like she's incredibly emotional and she's, she's like the sweetest woman in the world, but she's the toughest person I've ever met in my life. Like it's, I don't know how she does it, but Albanian women are like that. Like they're extremely, extremely tough. And I used to be like that. I was so tough my whole, like, you know, I was so tough. I was so this, I was like,
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
kind and sweet and affectionate, but this, like, hard exterior that anytime I felt unsafe, like, I would just shell up and, like, bye, everybody bye. And just God is like, nope, not anymore. And I just feel like I've never been so vulnerable and exposed and, like, hard on my sleeve. It's a beautiful thing. I am.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
You don't have a foreign family, but we're both East Coast family, like Albanians on the East Coast. You're from Boston. Like, it's very, very similar.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
How's my heart? I asked, how's your heart? Yeah, how's your heart? Good. I made an appointment, I don't know if I said this on here, with an eating disorder specialist. Yeah, I made an appointment with an eating disorder specialist, which is really kind of exciting. Which is so interesting. I'm actually really excited.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
I was talking to her and I was just telling her a little bit about myself and my story. And she figures that everything is connected to like one or two traumatic events that have happened in my life. Really? Yeah. She thinks that like all of it is wrapped up in like one or two moments from childhood. And she thinks if we can get to the root of that, we can literally just like unravel everything.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
Really? Yeah, isn't that so crazy? What does the process look like for that? I don't know. We haven't started. But we've just gotten a couple conversations in. But I will say it has opened me up emotionally that every five seconds I ask Ari, hey, you want to check in? That's what she says. I'm like... Ari hasn't had a heart tended to like this her entire life. She is so uncomfortable.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
Yes, can you tell them? That's what it is.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
So how's your heart other than that? Well, a lot's happening in my heart. A lot, a lot, a lot. I think, yeah, I'm just the most vulnerable that I've ever been. I am... Probably coming up against like past stuff a lot. That's coming up a lot. Yeah. Maybe we'll do like a whole. Episode on that. And it's things that I'm still processing through. So probably not fully ready to talk about it yet.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
I'm like, I have a thing where you're really good about coming on and like in the moment being like, this is everything I'm feeling. And I just have, I'm like so different in my, the way that I approach things. I like in my mind, it's like, And I just, I wish I could be more like you in that way. I really do. Because you're, you're just like, here it is.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
And it's okay if I don't have it figured out. My brain is like, I have to have it figured out. Otherwise there's no meaning to it and nothing good can come of it. Yeah, I think I've been so radically victim mentality my whole life, which is a good thing. Victim mentality is the worst thing you can do for yourself if you yield to the victim voice that speaks in your head.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
You are giving in to lies like you really are because we're not victims. But I think for a long time I've gaslit myself into being like, You can't be a victim. You can't be a victim. You can't be a victim. And I feel like God is inviting me into a really sweet season of just being like, You're not a victim.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
You're not a victim if you choose to, you know, lean into things that have gone wrong or have hurt. So, yeah, I think.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
Yeah, I know. It's so crazy. I think... Can you just text her and tell her that we're okay? Sorry, Angie's mom? It's my mom. Call, answer me.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
Bye, Ma. But, yeah, it's, like, so weird. It's... It's just a weird time. It's a beautiful time. Does anybody else feel that way? It's a beautiful time. I'm happier than ever. I really am. And I'm also just like, I don't know. Like, I don't know. It's the best time of my entire life. And
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
yeah I just there's like so many things on my heart and I'm sick too so you get ready for the floodgates but it's just like mostly you're dealing with shame right now like yeah I'm dealing with shame I'm dealing just like with past stuff I'm like yeah I don't know I think I'm dealing with stuff of like I guess it's weird that part of me is like, thank you.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
Part of me is like so weird that I've never, you realize that so much of like why you do the things you do is connected to just like your whole life and your childhood and I think what weighs on me a lot is like, just like a lack of probably a father's voice. And yeah, I've gone my whole life being able to like, just gaslight myself into being like, nothing bad has ever happened to you.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
It's all your fault. Like, I remember even The way I used to tell my testimony, I would be like, it was me. I was such a rebellious kid. Like, I was a bad kid. And I'm just like, why would I talk about myself like that?
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
I know you weren't I was like Peter I was like a ball you were like ball I would say I was like Peter and like yeah sure I was replaced but it's just like it's I guess sometimes I'm just my inability to even allow myself permission to yeah feel pain and
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
it comes to a point I think where you can't like run from it anymore and God is just taking I'm doing like rapid rapid healing so quickly and part of me is like I don't know I always think like he's getting me ready to have kids like there's a lot I have to I want to have kids obviously really badly and there's just a lot that needs to be addressed and healed and but yeah I'm
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
just like that lack of a father's voice, which I've never talked about. And it just like changes everything. It affects everything. And yeah, I'm just grateful that Jesus is like helping me discover like these things are my fault, you know? Like I didn't choose. to go the way that I did or, you know, like, just do the best you can, you know?
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
Anyways, so this is me not having answers to anything except Like I've said before, he heals where he cuts. He cuts you first. And then I think sometimes, I think especially being around so many Christian families and stuff and Christian people, And I love – like, it's so beautiful and it's so inspirational. But, like, I wasn't kidding when I said, like, we grieve. And I love where I come from.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
I love – my family is the greatest – like, the best, the best, the best. But then, like, when you don't have – sometimes when you realize, like, you're just fighting a different battle, like you're fighting an uphill battle –
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
And yeah, so I say all this to say that like if you're somebody who blames yourself for everything, like we just have to be released from that because none of us like choose to go the wrong path or, you know, be a way that we shouldn't be just out of nothing. Like it's all out of pain. It's all out of brokenness. And Yeah, and he was hushed at heart.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
Yeah, I'm like, I know. Yeah, I think what was really... I told you this the other day, and maybe I'll take this part out, but I was like... It was after our Nashville show, and we had so many friends and so many people and pastors, you know, and so many... I had a few people, pastors, that came out to the show, and I just, like, value their opinion like it's God, you know?
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
Like, that's blasphemous, so not really, but... I just value their opinion so much. And John has noticed he's like you. He's like you have this paradigm of like the man of God complex. Like you care so much what men of God, like greats in the faith, like pastors, whatever. Because I'm always like, if Michael Koulianos validates Girls Gone Bible, I'm good. We've made it.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
And John's always like, you don't need Michael Koulianos to validate Girls Gone Bible to know that what you do is significant and important.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
I'm so sorry I'm like um and then when we were at the show the other day one of our friends Will Hart who is like just I respect him so so much and so having him come the fact that he would even come meant the world to me and then he was just like encouraging me afterwards and John told me on the plane home with tears in his eyes he was like he was like I'm watching you
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
get feedback and encouragement from Will Hart, and I see how much it means to you. And, like, I see you're looking for a father's voice. Like, I see you looking for a dad's voice. And he's like, and that's why you have this complex of, like, needing. And it's just, like, it's just so crazy.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
What's up, ggb? Oh, it feels like it's ggb plus because we're over here.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
Okay, so obviously Ari and I are best friends in the whole world. We're sisters, we're business partners, we're ministry partners, we do everything together. Do we get into it a little bit once in a while? Don't forget that we're from the East Coast too. We also didn't grow up Christian, so it is a constant battle between the BCS and the saved us.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
I like it over here. Hi, I'm Ange. And I'm Ari. And this is Girls Gone Bible. We are a faith-based podcast where we talk all things spirituality, mental health, everything to do with your everyday life, whatever problems may arise. And we like to put theological context around it because we love Jesus here. We love the Bible. You guys, I am so, so down bad. What's up, little chicken head?
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
And so there's nothing funnier than we were in a little tiff recently. And the beautiful thing about Ari and I is, you know, we... We might argue once. It's never about anything. By the way, it's never about anything serious. The beautiful thing about us is there's never been one fundamental issue.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
disproportion or issue like it's never been like something fundamentally was wrong and we are misaligned or like we've never not agreed on anything ministry wise even down to like this month it's like sister stuff like you know you guys won't talk for two weeks because she took your pants out of the closet well yeah yeah that's probably why and then we'll have to talk it out well you took the p my dad calls he goes
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
What are you two doing, you idiots? And so now I've become this overly emotional, like, whatever. And so, and Ari's just, like, fully avoided half the time. And so we're, like, arguing something out. And then it gets heated for a second. We start whatever. Ari starts getting all her stuff together. And I'm like, all right, fine, go. No, you know what? Sit down. Sit down. I take her stuff.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
And I'm like, you're sitting down until we figure this out. We're sitting on opposite sides of the couch. We're not having it. And then all of a sudden, out of nowhere, we're holding hands, telling each other we would die without it.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
I love that moment. You know? And like Ari was saying, healthy boundaries are good. Like any therapist would recommend healthy boundaries. But boundaries that cause disconnection, I think that's where we can get a little muddled. Like boundaries that cause a relationship to be completely surface level. I don't... That's not... I don't know.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
I don't want that type of relationship in my life, you know? But you and I just like... We just keep going and you keep talking it through and you have to be like disgustingly honest.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
What's up? So tell everyone what's wrong. Yeah, so there was some sort of devilish flu going around. And it hit me hard. And I'm not doing so well. But we overcome and we'll be okay. I'm like... I'm not one, truly. I mean, you might think I want to over-spiritualize things, but I try not to. But this is the first thing in a long time where I'm like, I genuinely feel so attacked.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
You don't give up and you just – You say this all the time, but you just realize that everybody's broken, everybody's lost, everybody's struggling. And, you know, again, if somebody's hurting you or is really bad or it's just, like, really, really bad for you to be in that, like, that is not – we're not telling you to stay in those. But it really is about – It's just about commitment.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
Like you have to commit to things. You have to commit to people. Like you and I are committed to each other. So we're committed to hearing each other out. We're committing to growth. John and I's relationship has taught me a lot about that too where I just have the most grace in my heart. It's a supernatural work of Jesus, clearly.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
He's put so much grace in my heart, so much humility in my heart to be able to be in the relationship that I am. relationships the closer they get the more exposing they become and they expose your weak spots they expose your brokenness they expose your flaws and then you have to have the humility to be willing because otherwise that relationship won't ever last or it'll just stay surface
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
I don't like, I don't want to have surface. It's hard to go deep with people. Like it really, it hurts to go deeper with people because it begins to expose so much. But it's just so worth it. It's so worth it. I just know for me, for instance, you and I,
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
Let's read a little bit of James. What does it say?
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
I love where this is going. Thank you for telling me that. I think sometimes. I think sometimes if you come to me and tell me something and I don't automatically say sorry, it's because my logical brain starts to analyze the situation and give you reasons as to why you shouldn't feel that way. It's kind of like how guys are actually. Wow. They're so annoying. I don't want to be like that.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
That's how they act. They try to like put logic as to like, no, this is why you shouldn't feel that way. And all it comes off as is defense and invalidation of feelings.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
And then it ended with us... Oh, wait. I'm sorry. I have to tell... And then it ended with us going... You're like, you know... Do you remember this? We go... You go, Ange, like, we're going to go through things and whatever. And like, whatever. We're going to go through things. And I go... Yeah, but I have really severe abandonment issues. No, that was actually a beautiful moment.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
And then you start crying and you go, because you're a dad.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
Like, attacked, attacked. I've never been sick like this in my life. The fever that I've had consistently for, you know, days, and I just... I do. I get attacked through getting sick a lot because it just, I am like such a 100% go all the way all the time. I'm like type A, don't ever stop. And I really feel like, I feel like it's, my heart is in full surrender.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
James is the book of rebuke, basically. I'm just kidding. Not really. But James, the book of James is probably one of the most convicting books of the entire Bible.

And yeah, in the best way. I feel like the strength throughout this whole episode was, like, working through brokenness. Yeah. That's what we're doing. Yeah. You guys watched us actively fall in love with Jesus. You guys have watched us go on a sanctification and purification. We've begun to walk in purity with you guys. We've gone on a serious modesty journey with you guys.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
We've cleaned up our mouths with you guys. Like, we've laid down sin, every sin we, you know— are trying to live holy and righteous, righteous and blameless. And, and now we are, you guys are watching us. I love that we're in seasons together.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
Like you guys are going through the season of, we are going through an emotional healing journey with Jesus where he has, you know, weeded out all of the sin in our lives. And now he's working on our hearts. And now there's like big, big heart work that he has to do.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
I'm just like, I feel like God is speaking so clearly and he's like, I'm not asking you to move as fast as you want. I know. It's like you have to relax. You really don't stop. I know, but I love it like that. I like living like that.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
I love that so much. We love you guys so much. Thank you for coming to this. I wonder if every episode is going to be emotional for a little while, but we love you. Thank you for dealing with my horrific voice and being sick. I just love you guys so much, so much, so much. We love you. We love being on this journey with you. We love you guys. May the Lord bless you and keep you.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
May he make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. May he turn his face towards you and give you peace.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
I know. My body is, it's done. I have to take care of myself. I'm going to burn out. I'm going to, if I don't relax. And I mean, we're going to be on tour for the next year, so we better figure out how to take care of ourselves.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
This past weekend of tour was probably our greatest breakthrough yet. I mean, you guys, Ari and I had the most special weekend probably of our lives. We just... Tour is... the greatest thing that we've ever done.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
And I'm actually gonna talk about tour a little bit today just because it's connected to our topic, but it's the greatest thing we've ever done and it's obviously the most challenging thing we've ever done. I mean, two girls who have barely ever been to church go up and have revival nights and people see tour and like every single person who comes to a GGB show Like we can't even call them shows.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
That's not what they are. They're meetings. They're like nights for people to encounter Jesus. And everyone goes, this is not what I expected. Like we give everything. We give everything. We preach the word of God. Like we just like really, really, really, really, really create a space for Jesus to come. And we've never done anything like that before.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
And it is so insane on our hearts and on our spirits. And I just think... it brings up so many insecurities. Like I know for me and for you too, you're up there and you're just like battling like it's so beautiful and we're so present.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
And then afterwards you, you just battle so many insecurities and you bad, like I am dealing with things now that I didn't know were in me until we started tour insecurities, fears, um, feelings of unworthiness. Like I, there were things that tour, like God is just, he's doing just as much in us as he is through us. Like There's so much that tour is bringing up.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
And I just feel like this weekend was such a major breakthrough for both of us where we were just happy and we were confident and we didn't overthink and we didn't feel like we needed to be anything. We're like, this is us. This is what we have. Take it or leave it. Like, is God pleased? Okay, then great.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
Amen. That's so good. My favorite, I think one of my major moments of breakthrough this past weekend was like just the significance of the secret place, which I already like. I know the significance of the secret place. But I think sometimes, like, you know, we've heard pastors and people who are older be like, We've heard people that are older say, I still seek God today like I did when I was 20.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
And I hope that I do even more when I'm 80. And we've also met older people who have said things like, I read the whole thing. I don't need to read it again. You know what I mean? And like, I never neglect the secret place, but there is a temptation when you have history with God to feel like you can rely on your history.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
And you can in certain instances, like when you don't feel God or you feel like you're in the wilderness or you feel like you can't see him, you can look back on your history and be like, okay, but this is what I know about him. But you can't rely on like yesterday's secret place for today, right? Explain that.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
So like the secret place, like for example, you slept at my house last night and we were both like having quiet time this morning and I went around the corner and I was sitting and I like gave you your space and we love praying together and everything. But the secret place is like the secret place where it's just you and Jesus.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
And it's a time where you meet Jesus and nothing supernatural or crazy has to happen, but it's a time that's dedicated to being alone with God. And the both days, because I was sick both days, I didn't leave my hotel room. I didn't go out. We didn't go get our hair done. We didn't do anything. So I spent three, four hours with Jesus. And it was uninterrupted, undisturbed time with Jesus. And
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
Spent like three four hours, and I'm just communing with him. I'm sitting in silence. I'm reading a little bit I'm marching around worshiping. I'm sitting again. I'm replaying things in my head I'm preaching in my head, but like I'm just continually communing with him. He would take me on little journeys here and there and Then when I went on stage both times I knew
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
that I am not calling on Jesus when I get to the stage, but everything that is coming out of me is pouring out from my secret place in the day. And like, I know that, but sometimes like spending three, four hours with Jesus It just sounds excessive. It sounds religious. And for me, I'm just like, that's how I thrive.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
Like hours of sitting there and you might not even know what's happening, but he is literally filling you head to toe. You don't need to pray the whole time, but it's this designated time where you just give him everything. You sit in silence. You do nothing. You just hang out. You hang out. And so I have never felt stronger, more confident, more powerful, more protected in my own mind.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
Then, you know, times where I'm like, oh, I know he's with me.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
I Bryce said something really really significant that hit me he said he was he realized he was treating Jesus as this dopamine hit and I've done that before where I know what it's like to encounter God I know what it's like to be touched by God I know what it's like to feel like Jesus walked in the room and you become like addicted to that and you realize like it's
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
you're trying to evoke something that gives you this feeling of power instead of just wanting to spend time with Jesus. And what I realized more than anything is being in the presence of God doesn't mean that something crazy has to happen, but it's continuously inviting Him in and saying things like... Fill me with your love. Fill me with your joy. Wash me in your peace.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
Wash me in your loving kindness. Fill me with your spirit and just like continually inviting him in. And like he does a supernatural work, but the secret place is what you have to establish. It has to be this time of like by phone, by people. You don't let your phone anywhere near you. You don't let anybody have access to you in this moment. And like, And you just don't leave.
Girls Gone Bible
Working Through Brokenness | Girls Gone Bible
You have to linger and you have to stay. So anyways, my whole point in bringing that up was that the secret place is, it's what I'm most passionate about because it's where we find everything that we need.

Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
And I love what you say. He gave him what he needed. You come to God with your doubts, and He will give you what you need. He loves. And you also said, He is not that fragile. He's not so fragile to take our questions and our doubts.

That's a really good point. You talk about church hurt and just wounding in your book a lot. And it's, can you just talk about that a little bit? Because that's why so many people walk away from faith. And it's always a good reminder that we follow Jesus, not people.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
We see a lot, like on TikTok and on Instagram Reels, there's a lot of content around deconstructing faith. And so can you just speak to people and tell them what deconstructing is and how it can actually lead to greater faith?
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
Yeah, I mean, we are so grateful for the fact that so many billions of people around the world in countries where they probably can't even access physical Bibles. Do you understand what that means? The Bible is what saved our lives. Like we're not girls gone Bible for no reason. Like the word of God is everything.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
You know, we grew up in a context where we knew about Jesus, but we didn't know him because we didn't know the word of God. There is like, you can't hold anything equal to the word of God. It is the most incredible thing in the world with the power to save, heal, transform. It's just incredible. So thank you. We're so happy to have you here.

You're so good, Craig. What do you say to people? Because this is something that we see a lot. What do you say to people who read the Bible, specifically in the Old Testament? And there's some funny stuff in there.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
And we're supposed to. And this is coming from someone who, unfortunately, I take the Bible at face value. Literally, I could read the most insane thing in the Bible and I go, I know it happened. Like, that's just how my brain works. That's how my heart is. What do you say to people, though, that read, you know, Jonah being swallowed by a whale?
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
Just all of the stuff that's in the Old Testament and how we have to believe it as truth.

No way. You know I don't want a tornado, right? I was just kidding. Okay. Everyone's safe. Well, Craig, we adore you. Thank you. We really do. You and your wife, Amy, you guys are such an incredibly... Powerful couple. You guys are pure. Every single person that we talk to about you literally go, they are the real deal. They're pure. They're good. They love the Lord.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
Somebody needed to hear that. Thank you so much.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
I think what's so encouraging about all of this is that even a pastor at your caliber who's been in ministry for as long as you have, you still are aware that there are mysteries in the way that God works.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
Can I ask you a question? So something that I deal with quite often, so we have sick people who we really, really need saved, healed, delivered, and freed. And you probably are in a similar position as we are, where we hear countless testimonies from our ministry, our videos, our episodes, our live tour. I mean, like hundreds and hundreds of testimonies of people
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
Everything that they do points to Jesus. And I was even talking to your team, and I noticed that even about the Bible app, that you guys don't brand yourselves. You don't even hear Life Church as this big branded thing. You don't see the Bible app as this branded thing. It's just, this points to the Bible. We point to Jesus.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
salvations, people being free from addictions and mental illnesses and all of these things. And there is such a bitter sweetness to it because I'm like, how do I have so much power through my ministry and I can't bring that same power home? And it's not that you don't want to see these people being, of course you do.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
But there's such a weird tension of being like, okay, but I'm seeing you do this for so many people. But I'll give it all away if you'll just do it for this one person. You know what I mean?
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
And, like, nothing about you guys is self-serving or self-promoting, and I can personally really appreciate that. Thank you so much. Yeah. So, yeah, I think—what should we start with, R? Kick it off with how he found Jesus? Yeah. Just give us a little bit of how you got saved.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
It's like, I always, the gospel makes sense. You put the gospel up against any other religion. You put Jesus up against any other God, and it just makes sense. There is no remission of sins without the shedding of blood. There's only one way, only one name under heaven by which men can be saved. You call on the name of Jesus, everything changes.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
So beautiful. Can we talk a little bit, Craig, about just the sensationalism around the presence of God? This is coming from someone who I am like a presence person. I really was discipled by African prophets in these little 10-person meetings.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
You have no idea. I get saved. Me and my mom go to these little African meetings.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
We would have pastors in Pakistan that would pray for us.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
I don't. Yeah, it's insane. That's why I have a very well-rounded faith. And so I'm like a big presence person. I started encountering the Spirit of God in my bedroom in Hollywood when I was 25 years old. I would literally... leave my house to go to the gym, and I would miss Jesus so much that I'd go back home because I wanted to be in the presence of God. I'd open my Bible, and I felt it.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
I felt the glory of God fall into my bedroom. And then I experienced what you talk about in the book, where there is a honeymoon stage in your faith.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
Like with people, there's a honeymoon stage with Jesus where you're so on fire. And then like with relationships with people, you have to work at it. Because that like whatever is released in that beginning stages, there's like a spiritual high that you experience. And so first I want to ask you the presence of God. It's not about feelings.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
And so I can tell sometimes even when I don't get there, where I don't experience the presence, this like insane encounter with Jesus where I start to think, oh my gosh, what do I have to repent for? What did I do? What's wrong? Can you speak to that?
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
And thank you, Jesus, for the Word of God that gives us the promise that will always come to pass, that He does not leave. He's there regardless of how we feel.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
regardless i mean we've we've dealt with this so much where we're like oh my gosh we don't like i don't feel him like what's happening and and it's such a comforting feeling to like think back to the word he's here he lives right here he can't be far because he's in here he's in my heart and he's right here in the bible you can always find him in the word
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
Well, like you said, we discover Jesus through the Word. I'll never forget, I opened John 1, and I, for the first time, understood the Trinity Godhead. I understood that Jesus is alive in this very moment, just from John 1, and it changed my entire life in an instance. And then I just think that, like...
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
With the Bible, regardless of how you're feeling, the presence of God, that euphoric feeling, the goosebumps, the crying, all that thing, it might not come because that's not the promise. However, you do have the word that every single time you open it, you can guarantee that you are receiving. Jesus Himself because He is the Word made flesh. And so I read those words and He's right here.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
I don't have to search. I don't have to go anywhere. And sometimes I'm reading and I'm rocking back and forth and I'm freaking out because it's like this whole spiritual encounter that's happening. And sometimes I'm simply reading and I'm trusting that I am being fed. This is my daily bread. I'm being nourished and it's all good regardless of how I'm feeling.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
For my mentorship. Yeah. I think, you know, we're coming to a close in a second, but one thing that we wanted to ask you about, if you don't mind, is you did a series on mental health. And so you guys, Craig has, we'll put everything in the description, but he has, you have a talk on everything.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
You're really, really, really good at what you do.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
Counseling has literally changed my life.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
It's so helpful. I ask her every day, hey, how's your heart? You good? Yeah. We do heart check-ins every day.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
Oh, that's so kind. That is really, really kind. I think something that would be really helpful is just praying for us, praying for protection over our minds, protection against sickness. I've been getting sick a lot recently, and I've never gotten sick like this in my life. Um, specifically when it comes to tour, we were going to ask them this anyways, actually.
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
So this is incredible, but we have like our tour schedule out obviously. And like, if people could intercede on the days where we have a tour night, that would change our entire lives. We need covering on like on, you know, the nights that we have a tour night. So that would be the most helpful thing. If you could intercede those days just for protection, um,
Girls Gone Bible
Doubting God w/ Craig Groeschel | Girls Gone Bible
Thank you so much, Craig. Man, Jesus bless you, Craig. We mean that. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for your entire team. Everybody here. Thank you guys so much for everything. Do you guys have a position? Like we want to come hang out with you.

Wow. That's amazing. I know you were just telling me how you were also literally supernaturally delivered. There's something in your genetic bloodline. You had a genetic predisposition to this issue. And the same thing happened for me. And it's so comforting to know because sometimes you don't even know how to put language to what happened because it's a miracle.

You say diffuse your faith, diffuse your doubt by defining it. Can you walk us through that? Because there was multiple key ways of doubting.
