You know, we didn't have... We lived in a house, shared a house with other people up until I was about 10 years old.
All the things that you kind of take for granted, we didn't have, but they never let it affect me.
You know, I was happy.
I was kind of assimilating in Australian society and...
The only thing he tried to make sure with me was, because I hardly saw him.
I'd be up for breakfast, he'd be already at work.
He'd come home late at night after working.
He'd literally plonk himself on the couch for half an hour and he'd fall asleep on the couch.
So I never had any interaction with my father.
But he loved football.
And I think in his mind he sort of said, look, I don't know this country.
I don't understand it.
I'm going to put this, my son, in an environment that I do understand.
That was a football environment.
It was a Greek club at the time.
So at least I know that kids he's hanging around with are all going to come from similar backgrounds to what we did.
And it was a kind of, so the football became a little bit of a safety net, but also a source of comfort for not just my parents, like immigrants of that time.
And was there a big Greek community in Australia at that time?
Yeah, it was really big.
At the time, Australia was looking for skilled labour.
