And there was a young Vietnamese doctor on that boat.
He was about in his early 20s.
And he'd finished medical school in Paris.
He'd been sent out as a teen.
And he's part of that rescue.
And so the reason I found this footage and information is by finding him.
And that's how I was able to recover this history.
Yeah.
Well, there are two things, the exhaustion of hope, but there's also this feeling that we're finally getting rescued.
And I remember looking at the boat and how big the rescue boat was.
And in a child's mind, it's huge.
And that fishing net is huge.
And I thought, wow, if we...
are going to have to climb that net.
There's just no energy, no energy at all to finally we're going to die at this moment of exhaustion.
But then, you know, in that footage, I'm just kind of lifted as a little child onto the rescue boat and other people had to climb.
net to get on.
But it was kind of a joyous, like adrenaline.
And other refugees have described the moment of rescue like they will never be that sad or hopeless again.
