But we kind of just...

We got each other.

I didn't know anything about him.

I just thought he was lovely.

What had happened?

So essentially we had both been going.

Damien was kind of a staple there.

I was a staple there.

And then he stopped coming and I asked like around at the gym what happened to Damien.

He had had a seizure at the gym and he was taken to hospital.

Now, I didn't have that kind of relationship with him where I'd like reach out and be like, hey, I heard you had a seizure.

What happened?

So I was kind of in the dark about what was going on for him.

And it wasn't until we connected a few years later, we actually met again on Bumble and I reconnected with him.

And Damien told me about what had happened, that he had a brain tumor and oligodendroglioma.

And yeah, just how his life had changed in a blink of an eye.

He went from being 20, I think he was 23 at the time.

He'd been working really hard as a welder, boiler maker, a pressure welder, climbing up the ranks in that, going offshore to then having brain surgery and like losing some of his function and navigating the world in this completely new way.

So at 23, the doctors had originally said that he had a few years to live.

So originally they diagnosed him with an astrocytoma.
