And I'm not sure if your interest in retellings and reimaginings is limited to Anna Green Gables or if you're interested in this kind as well.
But in this story, which is written, as her past works have been, for YA readers, but it's very hospitable to a wide audience, as long as you're not going to be scared by the monsters.

But it's set in, well, predominantly in 1888 New York City with some flashes across the Atlantic to origin stories unfolding in London with Jack the Ripper.
But in late 19th century New York...
We meet a young girl named Tabitha who's left her home upstate for the city because she wants to join the Salvation Army in the Bowery in order to start a new life, make some friends, and also help humankind.
But instead, she ends up getting all mixed up with her roommate, so at least she has company.
But they realize that something sinister is happening at a brothel in the Bowery.
They see a teenage girl get disappeared inside its walls, and they feel compelled to try to do something.
So when they seek to help out this young woman, they tap into a sisterhood of Medusas in New York City who are bent on justice.
for women that have been hurt by bad men, including Jack the Ripper, who is trying to hide out and stay beneath the radar in 19th century, late 19th century New York City.
Historical fiction with a strong mythical component.
