You got a quarterback now that's still got that playmaker gene in him, no doubt.
We've seen it a bunch.
But you also got a guy who a head coach can now trust to just stand in the pocket, see the field clearly, and deliver the football where he believes it should go and is willing to trust his eyes and his playmakers to do it.
That's a big moment of growth that the Bears have seen here.
I think that's a more than fair observation or critique of where Roma Dunzey is at right now.
And my hope is to get in the offseason and not only get healthy, but you would like to see it.
You think of the opening drive of the game last night where Roma's open, Caleb puts the ball on his back hip between a couple of defenders, and yeah, it's...
Difficult weather conditions, no doubt.
But how big of an opening drive would that have been if Caleb throws that strike and then Rome's able to reach back and pluck the football?
Sure, a difficult grab, but a ball that goes right between both hands.
But he catches that, just falls into the end zone for an opening touchdown.
Soldier Field comes to life as electrified.
That would have been a big moment.
That is a moment that we've seen Roman Dunzay not be able to sort of rise up and make consistently.
He is physically capable of it.
He has had some incredible grabs in some of these scramble drill moments from Caleb over the years.
And, of course, you had the one against the Green Bay Packers on the 4th and 8th that we thought at the time was the most fantastic throwing catch we'd seen until last night.
Rome has had those times, and he's also had these times where you think if you're a top-ten pick, if you're a top-flight receiver, if you're a true alpha-level guy, then you want to see Rome make more of those grabs, the one that went through his hands on the opening drive, more consistently.
And he seems capable of that.
