The 5 million square foot museum is the biggest in the world dedicated to a single civilization, according to Egypt's Ministry of Antiquities.
There are ancient Egyptian artifacts spanning thousands of years.
But the ministry's Naveen Al-Araf tells NPR the real star is the ruler popularly known as King Tut.
That's 5,000 pieces, including his death mask, coffin, chariots, jewelry, and clothing.
Some not seen since his tomb was discovered more than 100 years ago.

Arizona is one of 37 states that allow voting by U.S.
citizens who are born abroad and have never lived in the United States, and sometimes because their U.S.
citizen parents or legal guardians served abroad in the U.S.
Laws in certain states allow overseas non-resident voters to register if a relative last lived there before leaving the country.
The Republican National Committee, however, is now arguing in court that Arizona's 20-year-old state law violates the state's constitution and, quote, "...inflicts a competitive injury on the party."
by adding to voter rolls U.S.
citizens who are disproportionately non-Republican.
Republican efforts to restrict voting by U.S.
citizens living abroad began last year with last-minute lawsuits challenging ballots in swing states.
The push comes as data shows this voting population is becoming less military and more civilian.
Pennsylvania's state attorney general's office says the six-page street canvassers now facing charges were not trying to sway any election or voter rolls for a specific political party or candidate.
