The Military Police set up a special plan throughout the state to ensure security during the days of December 23rd and January 6th.

During this period, about 32,000 detainees will have the right to visit relatives between Christmas and New Year.

As Colonel Carlos Henrique Lucena, operational coordinator of the São Paulo Military Police, says,

By law, the benefit is part of the resocialization process and guarantees the prisoner the right to visit the family on specific dates.

Statistics show that part of the beneficiaries again commit crimes such as robbery and drug trafficking.

There are also those who simply do not return to the prison system.

In the first three outings of this year, 3,068 prisoners did not return to the chain.

If the detainee is arrested in a flagrant manner during this period, he loses the right to the next benefits.

A new law that was passed last year prohibits the temporary exit to visit the family and restricts only the situations of study or work.

But the new rule only applies to convictions that happened after the law came into force.

Therefore, no convicted person still fits into this profile.
