I spent 10 years pretty wanting to put music out, but never doing it because I never felt like something was finished.
And I think, you know, sobriety played a big role in that.
Like, the moment I stopped in 2018...
drinking and taking drugs was when the name Atahualpa came to me even though it's my middle name and I actually started putting things into the world because it gave me a confidence of not to procrastinate and also like what's the worst thing that can happen you know you can have something in the world if you don't like it in 10 days 10 years 10 months 10 hours put another thing out there you know it's like no one cares maybe that's the best piece of advice I just gave myself no one cares yeah
I spend a lot of time like when I'm sort of worn out, put the TV on, there's nothing on TV.
I'll just go on YouTube and I'll just watch my videos.
I mean, it sounds kind of a, you know, narcissistic thing to say, but it just shows like in visual form, the sort of evolution of the work.
And it sort of tells me where to go next in a lot of ways.
And like we've just released a remix EP of the songs of experience.
So we had this amazing Mexican duo called Gloobs, which are very like in a talking head sort of way.
But there's a Latin American sense to it.
And then a Texan kid called Julian Mass, who's amazing and made one of the songs sound very like pavementy, silver juicy, like very guitarry.
And then this amazing electronic musician called Tepper, who I met last year.
And he just took the song Alma, which is about my mom.
And it's about painting and drawing a line while you paint.
And he just reinvented the whole thing.
And I just thought I just love the art of the remix as well.
And being able to put that out and being to be able to sort of, you know, collaborate with these incredible artists.
You know, if it was up to me, I'd do the whole record as a remix because it's just so fun.
And I love all, you know, genres and tastes of music.
