When the bodies were later inspected in the morgue, Seppo Boisman had suffered stab wounds on the neck and it was determined he most likely died of blood inhalation.
And Myla Bjorklund had defensive wounds on her arms and had been stabbed about 15 times.
Many of these wounds were inflicted after she had already died.
That guy definitely sticks out to me in this case.
That is his name, Asman.
And this one is peculiar, but as some time passed after these murders, it became clear the police had most likely botched the investigation.
You know, to list off a few of the problems, as we said earlier, the area was not properly sealed off upon police arrival.
Locals, journalists, and a ton of random onlookers were allowed to walk freely through the scene, trampling over evidence, possibly, you know, who knows if they took something, if they left something.
Items were handled and even removed from the site before being properly documented.
And Neil's shoes were discovered only a few hundred meters away, but were found very late into the investigation.
which kind of begs the question of how thoroughly the area was searched and if other missing items had been in the area, but maybe they were moved or possibly destroyed over time or just completely missed.
So fingerprints, footprints, and biological evidence were not properly collected or preserved.
We know with a lot of these old cases, DNA is often what is kind of the ace in the hole.
But there were few photos or sketches created of the crime scene and the investigators didn't even record the exact positions of the bodies or surrounding objects, which made later reconstructions very unreliable.
What's most concerning is that the investigators did not complete any blood tracing or evidence testing despite versions of those processes being available at the time in the 1960s.
And not only was the collection of evidence amateurish,
At best, later interviews with the birdwatching boys who had witnessed that blonde man leaving the campsite would expose that the police never fully interviewed them beyond getting just a basic statement on the day of the murder.
So potentially like, you know, one of the only eyewitnesses here to see the culprit.
But despite these failings, in some ways, the investigators did seem to be putting effort into solving the case, and they called in the military even to help with their search and investigation.
They even used a boat to try and drag the lake to find those murder weapons.
