So my first smear test was in the early 80s when I was obviously in my very early 20s.
And I had nobody to ask.
And I had no internet.
I had no idea what was really going to happen.
My mother had never had a smear test.
There was no female doctors.
My doctor was this very nice kind of basil faulty kind of character, very desperate.
He was awfully nice and everything was jolly hock sticks and awfully good, wonderful.
And there was no female doctor in the practice.
The only woman was the receptionist.
She didn't do smear tests.
So, like, you had no choice.
And I can remember
making the appointment thinking I'm being very responsible.
I knew it's something I should do.
So I made the appointment.
And then I remember having a panic going, how should I prepare for this smear test?
Like, what do I need to do?
Because again, back in the 80s, we didn't have all our bits lasered off.
Like, you know, we still have all our hairy bits.
