I was expecting J.D. Vance's take on things, that it would sort of be case by case and that anybody who hit or assaulted a police officer would not get a pardon. 16 people did not get pardons. They had their sentences commuted. So from that point of view, I think From the Trump team's point of view, they were going case by case.

There were people who they felt what they did was too extreme to get a pardon. I would have preferred that the standard that J.D. Vance laid out be the one that they followed. But I think the way they're thinking about it is, first of all, Biden came out with these utterly egregious preemptive pardons and family pardons literally 15 minutes before the inauguration of Donald Trump.

And so I think they felt that a little bit more leeway. If you look at who Biden pardoned, it was all of these very well-off elites of his party and his side and his family, as opposed to the people Trump pardoned. These are the kind of You know, the rabble of his side, you know, these are not people who are, you know, in the elite. So there's a real split screen there.

And also, I think they thought, you know, the point Trump was trying to make with these pardons is that the justice system was weaponized against him and his supporters. And so to make that statement that we do not take seriously anything that came out of that DOJ process. They prefer to go with this more blanket approach than the case by case approach. I don't know how big of a mistake that was.

Like I said, my preference would have been for the case by case J.D. Vance version. But I honestly don't think anybody's going to be talking about this in a week. I do think what Biden did in terms of pardoning was so utterly egregious and is going to become a massive albatross around the neck of his party in a way that these really aren't for Donald Trump.

I think people are very happy about it. They did feel like the overzealousness and the weaponization of justice, that was a big deal for the people who are sort of the real base, like the people who've been like the Trump OGs, the people who've been with him since like 2015, you know? Not like the Vivek camp, but like the 2016 Trump. Or the Batyonger Sargon camp. Right, right.

The people who were really there from the beginning. I do think that what Biden did was so much worse because of the precedent that it sets. Like here you had, like you said, Barry, the Supreme Court weighing in and saying and ratifying this idea that there was an overzealousness here.
