One out of four Trump voters says the state of the economy is entirely or mostly his responsibility.

The economy isn't doing well, and without a massive change of direction, it's likely to get worse before the midterms.

And at least one in four Trump voters believes it's his fault.

That's going to impact the midterms.

It's the economy, stupid.

And when all the respondents were asked which party they thought was best prepared to bring down the cost of living, Democrats held a two-point lead.

There were some really interesting tidbits when you get down into the crosstabs about other questions.

One thing I found incredibly interesting is that Trump's energy push is backfiring.

With all of Trump's rhetoric about energy dominance and making up bizarre gas price claims, only 33% of people believe the Republican Party was better prepared to provide them cheap, reliable energy.

Democrats were 38%.

Democrats aren't even campaigning or pushing on this issue.

People's electricity bills are campaigning for Democrats.

When it came to making healthcare affordable, 33% said Republicans, 42% said Democrats.

Medical bills campaign for Democrats too.

There are all of the moral and ethical reasons that independents and some Republicans have turned on Trump.

But deep down, like most times, it's the money.

The economy is what swings voters because people care about the pebble in their shoe.

In a way, it's a sad state of affairs that the best chance to use the midterms to reduce all of the moral harms occurring right now really exists because a bunch of people believed a guy with a pretty shaky financial record could fix the economy he broke to begin with.
