The special election for the seat held by Marjorie Taylor Greene until she left was as expected, a Republican victory.

But the devil is in the details.

In 2024, Trump won that seat by almost 37 points, and Green won it by about 29.

This is a deep, deep red district.

Or it was.

The Republican candidate won by about 12 points.

12 points.

That's a 25-point swing away from Trump.

Even if you're just looking at MTG, it's a 17-point swing in a deep red district.

In real life, that's normally just something to motivate people to run in unwinnable districts, so the other party's resources get wasted.

If you thought the Democratic wins in the previous special elections were sending shockwaves through the Republican Party, wait until you see what the Republican win is going to do.
