So that's a brilliant technique.
Now, this development probably did not come from Hitler himself.
And that's because most developments did not come from Hitler himself.
I think there is this misconception that, well, Hitler was this authoritarian leader, right?
He was the ultimate tyrant.
And so he must have been a very authoritarian leader and very strict on the orders that he gave to his subordinates and exacting in exactly what they did and very detailed in his planning.
Actually, Hitler was the opposite.
Here's what historian Ian Kershaw writes about it.
He says, Hitler paid little attention to administration and organization.
party bosses were resigned to his lengthy absences and inaccessibility on even important concerns.
Hitler's instinct as ever was for propaganda, not organization.
So he's a great propagandist.
He's a great speaker, but he's a terrible organizer and he doesn't like to organize.
And so for the most part, he is just the person who sets out the vision.
He says, this is what we're trying to accomplish.
And then he just allows his subordinates to go and try to accomplish it.
And this does actually lead to a lot of initiative on the part of many of his subordinates.
It's also very chaotic and leads to a lot of infighting because there are no clear directions.
