But would just shrink in influence until it was just a minor party once again.
So the government that forms in 1932 has to once again be appointed by von Hindenburg.
And this time it's not von Papen.
It's a guy by the name of Schleicher.
And Schleicher had been von Papen's friend, a close friend and confidant.
They had worked together.
And so von Papen sees this as a major betrayal.
So Schleicher comes into government, but then he too just makes some huge errors that are deeply unpopular.
So his government only lasts from November to February, from November 1932 to February of 1933.
And most people would panic during this time, right?
We had been so close to power.
We were the biggest party.
And now we're receding.
Now we're just taking a huge hit.
But Hitler applied one of his characteristic strategies.
One that he used all the time.
And that was doing nothing.
