He could have gone full foreign oligarch, and he didn't. But he stepped in it today, and we are seeing it.

Yeah, I think with Trump, he cares about making deals. That's very much how he perceives a lot of his success as president. He cares about making deals, and he cares about being seen as the dominant player in any deal that happens. He does not want to be seen as the guy who made concessions. He wants to be seen as the one who was strong that other people came supplicating themselves to.
