While Inspector Faraday was questioning Martha Vale, the dead woman's traveling companion, the steward of the ship came to Blackie and promised to tell him at midnight who killed Mrs. Aiken.
At midnight, Blackie and Faraday found the steward dead.
Faraday charged Blackie with killing him.
And as we return to our story, the inspector is about to take Blackie to jail.
