And you start going through papers at the time,

His parents were in a car accident in 1940.
I mean, that's really the extent of it.
I started at the beginning back in Bath, New York, and tried to find out about...
the family going from there.
And from the sounds of things, it wasn't a normal family life, particularly if we think of, you know, post-war 1950s, white picket fence America sort of a deal and leave it to Beaver and that sort of stuff.
His dad was in the Air Force,
And they lived in Germany for a while.
Now, there's one of the things that may have been, and it has not been hammered into stone, is that he'd witnessed his sister raped when she was seven at a military base in West Germany at the time.
And that may have had an effect on him.
He seemed like a maladroit individual, somebody that you'd feel socially uncomfortable around.
And, you know, it doesn't look like there was a lot of friends or anything like that.
And, you know, obviously being serial killers, a fairly solitary occupation.
Life.
He pleaded guilty because...
He pleaded guilty because he would have got the death penalty or a sentence to the death penalty.
I mean, it's not like California isn't quite like Texas to strap him down at every opportunity.
