When Benjamin Franklin arrived in Philadelphia wet and exhausted as a teenager, he had in his pocket a few shillings and a dog dollar.
So there were different types of dollars, but it was always very clear what a dollar was.
So in the 18th century, and even into the 19th century, so these silver dollars, again, I'm going to say this again and again, I'm sort of very skeptical of the idea of monetary sovereignty.
I think you cannot assume that it happens.
It has to be fought for over time.
It's always fraught, and you're going to lose it if you don't pay attention to it.

But just to finish that thought, the silver dollar that comes from Mexico is current in America as money until the 1850s.
