Because, you know, it's funny how the ATO doesn't like you amending tax returns when it's in your favour, not theirs.
They're happy for you to amend it when they get money, but as soon as you start to amend something that puts you in a better position, that triggers audits and all that sort of mess comes with it.

If you're becoming an expat, I always say at least six months.
And the reason for that is you need to go through and work out a few things.
Are we going to keep our principal place of residence?
Are we going to do deemed disposal?
These are very set in stone milestones that you can't undo once you've left.
You have to make that choice and commit to that decision before you leave.
And people take time to slow burn and sort of pontificate and
You know, right now we're talking to a lot of folks post-budget who are like, we're out of here, this is it, and we're going to sell the property, we're going to get a scorched earth.
You know, that's an easy choice for them to make, but most folks find it difficult.
