And many of the stories in this
are set around water or the beach or on islands, yeah.
It's the aftermath of something.
That's what the story is going to be about.
That's what it tells you, I suppose.
It's the inciting incident right in the very first line.
So that's quite good.
No, I mean, he doesn't really mention places.
He creates the place.
You know what he's talking about, but he doesn't explicitly say it.
He's also very good at setting up a puzzle.
You know, it's a family.
Something's gone wrong.
Something's happened.
And sometimes he resolves the puzzle, and that's a nice way for a short story to end.
But sometimes he just leaves the thing hanging, and you've got to kind of think about, well, what really did happen?
What was the key thing that occurred in that story?
And that's also a really lovely thing in a short story.
So, no, it's not didactic.
He leaves a lot up to you to sort of interpret and try and work out.
