And yet, despite Evans' apparent guilt and the overwhelming evidence against him, Evans' family, and particularly his mother, continued to blame the prosecution's star witness, John Reginald Christie, for the crime.
Now, nobody thought much of this, and they certainly didn't put much stock into the ravings of a woman who was obviously devastated by the loss of her son, even though she wrote that horrible letter about him, and the loss of her daughter-in-law, who she liked better than her son, but certainly her grandchild.
That is, until a new tenant moved into Christie's flat and began to notice a horrible smell.
