You've got to draw upon something which your dad gave you, your mum gave you, your grandfather gave you that was passed down from them.
And you'd have to feel that.
So if some bloke rings me and says, hey, listen, I've got this real desire to play for England because my grandmother, my grandfather was English.
And he feels that passion.
That'll do.
That'll do.
Jadon Braley, for instance, his mum's English.
I've talked to another couple of players whose mums and dads are English, but they were born in Australia.
They regard themselves as Australian.
They're grown-up Australian.
But now the World Cup's come round and they're thinking about it and the way they speak...
is with a passion you can tell it's in the guts and you can tell that when you say in preparation go again go again it's the favourite phrase every coach likes to say go again and they think it's over that tough part of it's over go again and you're trying to prep them for those moments where the referees say six again six again you've got to get it from somewhere you've got to get off the floor and get it from somewhere and you just don't get it from tactics and game plans
And I'm not sure you get it from a sexy video that you might show the players just before the game.
There has to be something else in there already.
And that's the English part.
That's where you've got to be English.
Now, whether you've had that passed down through your grandmother or your mother doesn't really bother me as long as it's in there.
And my job is to find out whether it's in there.
Yeah, I've rang up a couple of people as well.
Yeah, and I've had some different responses.
