I'm sorry if this sounds cold or callous or whatever, but in my opinion, if he really believed the end of the world was coming and they needed to get to the other side as a family so they all had to die together... I just am having a hard time believing that he would have, quote-unquote, failed so many times for weeks and weeks, you know?
