He's the fabled hero who failed and now has to, instead of going back to his forest...
as would be the way in previous lifespans.
This is not a spoiler.
In previous lifespans, he saves the world and he goes back to his forest and he gets to reset and he comes back around when they need him again.
He's now like in his 40s or 50s.
He's like, why am I here?
Why do my hips hurt?
Why am I tired all the time?
Functionally, this was the first, well, it isn't the first book I've ever written.
There were a couple before this, but this is one of the first that got finished.
So this is like my earliest attempts at queer representation, and I always knew that it was just the way that I wrote books, that all the characters were going to be queer, and you were just maybe not going to be informed of that fact because it's not really relevant to the story.
