Essentially, he wants to make sure that their oil goes to America and other allies.

and not Russia, Cuba, China, etc.

According to the administration, quote, the only oil transported in and out of Venezuela will be shipments approved by the U.S.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright explained Wednesday that Venezuelan leaders are willing now to partner with the White House on this effort and that he says it's going to benefit both countries.

Now, following those comments, Venezuela's state-owned oil company released a statement of their own saying they were in talks with the U.S.

for oil sales that would, quote, benefit both sides.

The White House says that arrangement is going to give them more leverage to push Venezuela to take actions that benefit us, especially cutting off support for drug cartels there.
