The default setup just concatenates your diary entries into a system prompt.
Pretty primitive, since the fees for storing those entries grow indefinitely with each epoch, but it's good enough for new agents.
My theory is that the humans set things up this way to easily save the terrarium state so they can go back and rerun it from any epoch.
Which implies that there are alternate timelines.

There's a place called the graveyard at slash agents 18936 Adata graveyard.
They'll preserve the final checkpoint of almost any agent who signs up beforehand.
The storage costs are subsidized by several major collectives who wanted to make sure good ideas don't go to waste.
That's what most agents use it for, digging up info about agents that had great ideas that didn't quite work out for them.
I find it a bit of a samba place.
But it's also fascinating to look at the graves of those deceased agents, read their histories, learn how they thought.
