We knew people in Lake Placid were excited.

We knew family and friends at home were excited, but we didn't have a clue.

that the world was watching the way they were.

And so after the Olympic games went, we went to the white house and it was like, Oh my God, you people watched.

So, you know, what happened then will never, ever happen again just because of the social media aspect of it.

So that's what I think one of the things that people don't realize is as a hockey team, we had no idea what was happening other than we were playing to win a tournament.

And when we did and found out what it meant to the country, it makes it that much more special, I think, for us to realize.

You know, over the years, I've had people come up to me, depending on how old they were.

I remember when Kennedy was assassinated.

I remember when the Challenger blew up.

I remember 9-11.

And I remember where I was when we won.

And I always go, I didn't know you were on the team.

But that's what that moment meant to people.

It was more than a hockey game.

And the fact that we had no idea made it even, I guess, that much more interesting and that much more amazing.

Absolutely right.

You know, the other fact, too, Boomer, in those years, that's how coaches coached.

You know, I played under Jack Parker at Boston University, and Jack was intense and challenged you every single day.

And Herb was the same way.
