Yeah, I remember with Avedon shooting a few times.

No, with Avedon always in studio.
Who's the photographer who you've been most inspired by the way they work?
My friend Mary Ellen Mark, who is no longer with us, but who was a great photojournalist.
And I met her in college.
She was a few years older than I was, but she was already a photographer and a very good one and was very generous with what she'd learned and taught me how to print.
Did she inspire you to become a photojournalist?
Yes, but at the time, photojournalism was getting a cachet, a sort of energy to it, and it was being discovered and photojournalists were being discovered.
So it was kind of like a new medium.
Because then you started working.
Did you ever work for one magazine completely or you were taking assignments for different magazines?
No, I just took freelance assignments.
Well, we were just talking about when you shot for Women's Home Journal with Jane Goodall, who died last year, and you stayed with her for a week, right?
